Global Standards Initiative for Identity Management (IdM-GSI)
Proposed Terms of Reference
1 Scope
The scope of the IdM-GSI is Identity Management (IdM) for telecommunications/ICT. The term IdM is understood as "management by providers of trusted attributes of an entity such as a subscriber, a device, or a provider." This management of digital identities is not intended to indicate positive validation of a person.
2 Objectives
a. IdM-GSI provides a publicly recognizable forum for attracting and marketing new concepts as well as developing the detailed standards necessary for IdM deployment to give service providers the means to offer a wide range of Identity services. IdM-GSI enhances harmonization, in collaboration with other bodies, among the different approaches to IdM frameworks and capabilities worldwide.
b. The IdM-GSI brings together interested participants from the ITU-T/D Study Groups concerned. In addition, representatives from other SDOs and regional organizations will be invited to join the IdM-GSI whenever justified.
c. The IdM-GSI work is coordinated by the JCA-IdM, including strategic/planning issues and work assignments.
4 Administrative support
The Director of TSB will announce the establishment of this IdM-GSI in a Circular to the membership with copy to SG Chairmen. The TSB Secretariat will provide secretariat and facilities required by this IdM-GSI, including the continuing use of the IdM Wiki under ITU auspices.
5 Meetings
It is proposed to hold the first meeting of this IdM-GSI for 3 days during April 2008 in conjunction with the meetings of SG 17 and SG 16.
5 Progress reports
The JCA-IdM will provide reports concerning IdM-GSI to TSAG at its meetings.
